National Night Out 2017 is Scheduled for October 3rd

For immediate release: August 8, 2017

On Tuesday, October 3rd, neighborhoods throughout Independence are invited to join forces with communities nationwide for the “National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Independence Police Department.

National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime efforts;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

There will be food, informational handouts, free giveaways and demonstrations from the various units within the police department, including the K-9, SWAT team, Traffic Safety units and others.
