INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of adults 60+. ARROWHEAD TOUR – September 13 at 8:45 a.m.

What better way to kick off the NFL season than with a private tour of beautiful Arrowhead Stadium? You will get to go behind the scenes. On your tour, you will see the press box, Chiefs’ Hall of Honor, The Stadium Club Level and stand on the sidelines of the field. After your private stadium tour, visit another Kansas City icon, “The Hereford House,” for an included lunch. Price: $49


AUTUMN ON THE PRAIRIE – October 11 at 7:00 a.m.

After heading west, your first stop will be the Plumlee Buffalo Ranch near Alma, KS. This family owned ranch has a large herd of bison and you will learn about these magnificent animals and get to view them in person! You will take a covered tram out into the fields, so bring your camera! This is prime viewing time, so you’ll get to have a peek at the proud mums and their calves. After your tour, head into the quaint town of Dover for lunch at one of Kansas’ hidden dining gems: Somerset Hall Café. You’ll enjoy a soup and sandwich lunch with beverage and slice of homemade pie (included). Their coconut cream pie put the place on the map, and has been featured on a variety of food shows and even Good Morning America! Deadline to pre-register: 9/10/17— Price $69



If you have registered for a tour and you have to cancel for any reason, it is in your best interest to find your own replacement. Please inform us of the change. If you can’t find your own replacement, the following will apply if you cancel the tour:

  • Before the original registration deadline — full refund minus a $5 processing fee.
  • After the deadline — no refund unless we receive another registration for the tour. If a replacement is found, you will receive a full refund minus a $5 processing fee.

We will do our best to replace your spot, by referring to the wait list. Refunds will be sent within four weeks after the scheduled tour date.

REMINDER: If you are signing up a friend for a trip who has not previously registered, you MUST have their name, address, and birth date and phone number.

Thoughtful TransitionsSeptember 13 at 10:45 a.m.

Presented by Tyler Staples from One Community Hospice. He will talk about the different transitions of life and ways to approach transitions without putting stress on you and your family.


Hy-Vee Aisles Online Shopping. What is it & How to do it? – September 12 at 10:45 a.m. and September 19 at 9:00 a.m.

On September 12th - Learn the basics of online shopping.  Tuesday September 19 from 9-11:30 a.m. - Get help setting up an online account with Hy-Vee for personal shopping – registration is required for online time.


Animal Safety – September 14 at 10:45 a.m.

The Independence Health Department will be sharing information on how to stay safe around your animals and what you can do to get them registered.


Well Mobile Visit – September 22 at 9:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Stay on top of your health! New health screenings now offered — hearing, bone density, along with additional blood sugar and blood pressure checks.


The Palmer Center’s book club “Cover to Cover”– September 21 – 2 p.m. – Truman Memorial Building

Adults 60+ will meet at the Truman Memorial Building. September’s book is “All these things I’ve done” by Gabrielle Zevin. Copies are being made available at the North Independence Mid-Continent Public Library. Please call (816)325-6200 for more information. The Truman Memorial Building is located at 416 W. Surprise Craft – September 15 at 10 a.m.

Sponsored by Redwood of Independence and Independence Rehab, each month The Palmer Center will be doing a special craft. It will be a fun time with others and a time to let your creative side out.


Games & Brain Teasers – September 28 at 10:30 a.m.
