INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The City of Independence is looking toward the future of Independence Power and Light (IPL) and City leaders will be implementing targeted studies over the next year to ensure everyone understands what that future should look like. On July 12, the IPL Financial and Management Assessment was shared with the Finance and Audit Committee. This assessment was conducted at the request of City Manager Zach Walker and is now available here, indep.us/iplfinancialmngmntassessment.
“We are pleased with the report and are using it to help us better understand the financial position of IPL,” City Manager Zach Walker said. “We are now working with City staff, the Council and City leaders to balance the financial needs of IPL with the best interests of our customers. IPL is a unique and important service that we provide to our citizens, and we want to ensure that it has a strong foundation for years to come. ”
As stated in an earlier release, the City has created a management matrix to address the 28 recommendations and review appropriate projects to meet the needs and concerns outlined in the assessment.
This fall, IPL will begin a New Generation Master Plan, which will help define the future of power generation within the City. There are also plans for a rate study to better understand the financial needs of IPL and customers.
