The public was invited to attend any of three Open House meetings in July, 2011 at different locations through out the City, regarding the Potential Transit System. Several transit riders and advocates provided their input and suggestions about the transit concept. Their suggestions were incorporated into the final system design.
A Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued by the City of Independence on Friday, August 19, 2011 to transit providers interested in submitting a proposal for transit service in Independence. Responses to the request were received and the firm First Transit was selected to provide portions of the fixed route transit service and the demand response service (Dial-a-Ride and Senior Transportation).
A presentation will take place on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the City Council meeting at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall. A second reading of the ordinance to award the transit contract to First Transit will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting beginning at 6:00 pm.
