WPC Attends Living Green Expo

Water Pollution Control Department Attends Expo

How much water does it take to make a pair of jeans? a hamburger? yogurt? The Water Pollution Control Department of Independence can tell you. They can also discuss how the impact of the water we use affects our area rivers.

Over 150 found out what it takes, depending on how we live, when they attended the Living Green Expo held at the Family Life Center in Independence last May of 2014. The department will be represented again this fall where Karla Pierce, environmental compliance manager, will discuss our individual impact on storm water and how it affects the environment. She will illustrate by using two different houses made from Legos. Contact Karla at kpierce@indepmo.org if you would like more information. Check out their complete website at www.ci.independence.mo.us/wpc.

The Living Green Expo will be held on September 26, 2015, 10 AM-2 PM.  It includes vendors who represent the use of solar energy, rain barrel usage, composting, recycling, repurposing and much more. Children’s events as well as presentations will be made on various topics to help citizens make choices that are “better for you, better for you wallet, and better for the earth.” The public is invited to attend this free event.
