Outside City Rates *
Rates for all sanitary sewer customers whose property is situated outside the City
limits shall be 1.5 times the appropriate base rate for private sewers. These rates
shall apply to all owners and occupants of each lot, parcel of real estate or building
which is connected to the City of Independence sanitary sewer system or which discharges
wastewater of any type, either directly or indirectly into the wastewater treatment
system, but who are situated outside of the City limits. These charges shall not
be applicable where arrangements for sanitary sewer service and sewer service charges
are established by existing or future intergovernmental contracts approved by the
City Council.
* Social Security Discount
There shall be a discount for residential customers receiving Social Security benefit
payments, or evidence of other similar retirement benefits at age 62 or above, and
who have sewer usage of 1, 2, 3 or 4 hundred cubic feet (ccf) per month.
The discount shall be applied to the base charge of the bill. Beginning in May,
1995, the discount shall be $.50 per month from the stated base rate. Beginning
in July, 1996, and each year thereafter, the discount shall be $1.00 per month from
the stated base rate.
The outside City residential customer shall also be eligible for this discount after
the 1.5 factor has been applied to the residential private sewer rate.
It shall be the responsibility of the customer to provide proof of qualification
for such benefits.
