The City of Independence does not provide residential trash pick-up.  Please contact a private trash hauler to establish service.

There are six trash haulers licensed to operate in Independence.  Some also provide residential recycling services in addition to trash pick-up.  Contact each company for information, fees and schedules:

Drop-Off Depot 

    Location: 875 Vista Avenue,  1 mile east of M-291 on Truman Road, turn north on Vista Avenue 
    Hours: Second Saturday of each month
                March - November, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    Independence residents only.  Bring a valid driver's license or recent utility bill.  
    Residential only - no commercial vehicles or vehicles larger than a pickup truck allowed.

    Cash or check only.  No credit or debit cards accepted.


Drop-Off Depot Pricing:


Cars - $11
Vehicles larger than a car - $16
Trailers over 8 ft. long - $26

Accepted Items - furniture, mattresses, carpet, sheetrock, windows, shingles, fencing, plumbing fixtures, etc.

No televisions, computer monitors, liquids, gas tanks, or sealed drums.
*Televisions and computer monitors can be taken to the city's recycling centers.


$11 per vehicle for limbs, firewood, bushes & stumps. No bagged leaves or grass.


Car - $2  Car (on rim) - $4
Truck - $5  Truck (on rim) - $11
Farm/Tractor - $16


$15 - Refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, hot water heaters, washers, dryers, etc.


No Charge - must have all fluids drained


No Charge - auto, boat, lawnmower, motorcycle



There are no landfills in Independence.
