The City of Independence will be submitting a grant application for several surface transportation projects under the TIGER Grant portion of available American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funds. The TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) Grant is a discretionary grants program with a total of $1.5 Billion available for State and local governments.
Projects that are eligible for TIGER Discretionary Grants include, but are not limited to, capital investments in: (1) highway or bridge projects; (2) public transportation projects; (3) passenger and freight rail transportation projects; and (4) port infrastructure investments, including projects that connect ports to other modes of transportation and improve the effeciency of freight movement.
TIGER Discretionary Grants will be awarded based on certain selection criteria specified in the Recovery Act.
The City of Independence has identified five transportation projects that propose to enhance both its economic development opportunities and improve the safety of its transportation system of existing roadway, bridge and pedestrian improvements. The TIGER Grant application has submitted the following five projects collectively as The Little Blue Valley Transportation Improvements:
