City Recycling Centers

Now accepting electronics!

  The City of Independence has partnered with Midwest Recycling Centers to offer electronics recycling year-round at both locations. Almost anything with a cord or a battery is accepted.

Vista Avenue Recycling Center

Location: 875 Vista Avenue, 1 mile east of M-291 on Truman Road
       8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sundays
     10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mondays


35th Street Recycling Center

Location: 13600 E. 35th Street, 1/2 mile west of Noland Road
     10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fridays
       8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays

The recycling centers will be closed on the following days:

New Year's Day - Friday, Jan. 2                         President's Day - Monday, Feb. 16

Memorial Day - Monday, May 25                     Independence Day - Saturday, July 4

Labor Day - Monday, Sept. 7                            Christmas Day - Friday, Dec. 25

Items accepted: office paper, magazines, newspaper, cardboard and paperboard, steel, tin and aluminum, plastic #1 - #7, plastic shopping bags, glass, toner and ink cartridges, and rechargeable and dry cell batteries.  Materials must be separated and placed in the appropriate bins.

Styrofoam is not accepted.   

Electronics accepted:  TVs, DVD and VHS players, computer monitors, towers and peripherals, stereos, gaming systems and cell phones

Other items accepted: appliances, air conditioners, lawn and garden equipment  (Drain all fluids from lawn mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, etc.)

All items are free except some televisions:
$20 each - 27" and smaller TVs
$40 each - TVs larger than 27", all console & projection TVs and any TV with a wood shell
Free - All LCD, plasma and LED flat-screen TVs of any size
