The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of 50+ adults. Step Back in Time – Jamesport Tour
Adults 50+ are invited to join Parks and Recreation on a day tour to Jamesport, MO to see a world where the Amish still live everyday life as if time literally stopped 100 years ago. An "Amish Insider" referred to in Missouri Life Magazine will take the group to explore an Amish home, stables and farm; visit Amish country stores; enjoy a hearty Mennonite meal; and shop the town’s many antique and gift shops. The tour is scheduled for Friday, June 14 and the cost is $53. It includes luxury motor coach transportation, driver’s gratuity, lunch, all activities listed and an experienced tour guide. Columbia Star Sunday Brunch Train Tour
Adults 50+ are invited to join Parks and Recreation on a day tour to Columbia, MO. The group will take a motor coach to Columbia, then board the Columbia Star train. The group will recapture the romance and grandeur of a by-gone era of train travel in beautifully appointed Pullman railroad cars while watching the Missouri landscape roll by. An elegant brunch will be served on board by a talented chef in a fine dining setting. After the trip is complete, the group will visit the University Of Missouri Botanic Garden to see their thematic and special collection gardens. The tour is scheduled for Sunday, June 23 and the cost is $99. It includes luxury motor coach transportation, driver’s gratuity, brunch, all activities listed and an experienced tour guide. "Meet Me in St. Louis" – Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre
Adults 50+ are invited to join Parks and Recreation on a day tour to Arrow Rock, MO, to join the Smith family at the 1904 World’s Fair, and see how their love and respect for each other is tempered with the genuine humor that can only be generated by such a special family. Hear memorable musical numbers such as "The Boy Next Door," "A Day in New York" and more. See gorgeous turn-of-last century costumes and experience the warm humor of nostalgic romance. Lunch in the historic Iron Horse Hotel in Blackwater is included along with a visit to the Arrow Rock State Historic Site prior to going to the theater. The tour is scheduled for Thursday, July 11 and the cost is $72. It includes luxury motor coach transportation, driver’s gratuity, lunch, all activities listed and an experienced tour guide. WWI Museum and Flowing Fountains
Adults 50+ are invited to join Parks and Recreation on a day tour to Kansas City, MO, to visit the state-of-the-art World War I Museum at the Liberty Memorial. Explore and discover our nation’s most extensive assembly of artifacts, photography, art and narratives of the Great War ever presented in a single collection. The tower is 217 feet tall and while there is an elevator, there are 45 steps at the top of the tower to climb to reach the observation deck. Lunch will be included at the on-site café before boarding the motor coach to comfortably view and learn about the many flowing fountains around Kansas City by a knowledgeable step on guide.The tour is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17 and the cost is $49. Annual Picnic in the Park
The Palmer Center will host Picnic in the Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. Adults 50+ can take time to get out and enjoy local McCoy Park and traditional picnic fare! We will play bingo, eat and be entertained by some talented musicians. For more information or to pre-register ($5 fee), please call 325-6200.

Bingo Bonanza
The Palmer Center will host Bingo Bonanza at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6. Adults 50+ can join the group for an afternoon of bingo at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. For more information call 325-6200.

Father’s Day Recognition
Fathers 50+ will be recognized prior to the lunch program at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. For more information call 325-6200.

Families Matter
The Palmer Center will host Families Matter from Monday, June 17 thru Friday, June 21. Adults 50+ can bring family photos of spouses, siblings, children, grandchildren, etc. for display in the dining hall at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Grief Recovery Outreach Session
Adults 50+ get together with others grieving over the loss of a loved one. The Grief Recovery Outreach session is co-sponsored by Crossroads Hospice. Next session starts 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. The last day to join is Tuesday, July 9. For more information call 325-6200.

Swing into Summer Celebration
The Palmer Center will host a Swing into Summer Celebration at 12 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. Adults 50+ can join in by spraying friends with water guns and enjoying a cool popsicle on The Palmer Center patio, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. For more information call 325-6200.

5-A-Day Bingo
The Palmer Center will host 5-A-Day Bingo at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 4. Fruits and vegetables are contributed by Hy-Vee on 23rd Street to use as prizes during this nutrition-education bingo game. The Palmer Center is located at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. This program is free and no pre-registration is required. For more information call 325-6200.

Cell Phone Solutions
Adults 50+ can bring their cell phone and instruction booklet for assistance on operating the functions at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4. This program is co-sponsored with Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph and will be held at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. For more information call 325-6200.

Facebook Class
Learn how to use Facebook – one of the most popular social media tools you can use today! Adults 50+ can register at 325-6200 for the next class, starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4. Participants will need to bring a current user name/password for an email account. This class will be held at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Intermediate Senior Tap Dance
Have you always loved watching a tap dancer? Listen as your feet rhythmically strike the floor to the tunes in this intermediate tap dance class and experience a whole new way to have fun! Please bring your own tap shoes. The next Intermediate Senior Tap Dance class will start on Wednesday, June 5. The class will meet for four weeks at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is required; the fee is $20. Call 325-6200 to register at least three days in advance or if you have any questions. Diabetic Foot Screening
St. Mary’s Hospital will provide adults 50+ free diabetic foot screenings, blood sugar and blood pressure checks from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 5. Pickleball
Adults 50+ are invited to play Intermediate Pickleball at The Palmer Center from 1 to 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. This exciting competitive game focuses on agility, shot placement and strategy, as opposed to power. Beginner play is offered from 12-1 p.m. each Thursday, so come try it – it’s free for all. Bare Bones Art
Are you creative and have an art project or idea you would like to share? At 12:30 p.m. each Monday you can gather with other artists – bring your own project, create together and help each other. Crochet 101

Pinochle

Game Time!
Adults 50+ are invited to play a variety of games at 12:15 p.m. every day at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Games consist of Hand in Foot Canasta, Card Golf and Mexican Dominoes. For more information call 325-6200.

Caring Communities Resource Center
Adults 50+ are welcome to drop by to discuss any issues or questions they might have about remaining independent or the caregiving role. A case manager will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at The Palmer Center. This program is co-sponsored with Catholic Charities of KC/St. Joseph and no appointment is necessary. The Palmer Center is located at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Monthly Grief Support Group
The Palmer Center and Crossroads Hospice are offering a monthly grief support group the first and third Wednesday each month at the Truman Memorial Building. Any type of loss will be discussed, whether its loss of a loved one, driving abilities, independence, etc., as well as myths associated with grief. The Truman Memorial Building is located at 416 W. Centennial Birthday Party Package
Adults celebrating their 100th birthday are welcome to celebrate this milestone by having their special day at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Tagilima Crafts
Adults 50+ are welcome to join others for a time of crafts and socializing from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Thursday at The Palmer Center. The Palmer Center is located at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. For more information call 325-6200.

Vital Volunteer Program
The Palmer Center is currently accepting applications for volunteers who would like to teach a special skill to older adults or be a general program leader. Please call 325-6200 to request an application.

Lowery’s Music Magic Classes
Adults 50+ are invited to learn to play the organ at The Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO. Three different levels of classes are offered for 10-week sessions on Tuesdays. Call 325-6200 for more information on class start dates and pricing.

Palmer Center Fitness Center Memberships
Adults 50+ are invited to tour The Palmer Center Fitness Room and consider joining as a member for a nominal annual fee. The Fitness Room includes several cardiovascular and weight-training machines. Each new member will complete a fitness assessment and receive an orientation to the equipment. Call 325-6200 for more information about becoming a member.
