The City of Independence Fire Department has issued a burn-ban beginning sunrise on Wednesday, October 14, until sunset on Monday, October 19, for all outside or open fire (except for residential barbequing).
The ban is a result of high winds, low humidity and the highly combustible condition of leaves and other foliage.
“Extremely combustible vegetation and foliage have created conditions where rapidly moving natural cover fires can occur,” Independence Fire Chief Doug Short said. “In the interest of community safety, citizens are reminded to properly dispose of smoking materials, fireplace logs and barbeque charcoal by placing them in a metal container after dousing with water.”
For further information about the current outdoor burn ban, citizens may contact the Fire Prevention Division of the Independence Fire Department at (816) 325-7121 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. In the event of an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
