 Independence Police Citizen’s Academy

 The Independence Police Department is once again gearing up to provide a Citizen’s Police Academy that will be starting on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. The classes will continue each Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. until December 18, 2014.

 Seating for the new class is limited to 30 people, so anyone who is interested in attending needs to apply early to secure their place.  Due to the content of some information discussed in the classes and the location classes inside the police building, Each student is required to submit to a background check. 

 Curriculum topics in the classes will be taught by police officers and experts in the respective fields.  The topics will include:


  • Traffic Control
  • Investigations
  • School Resource Officers/Truancy/ and D.A.R.E.
  • Swat Teams
  • Bomb Squad
  • Training
  • K-9 Policing
  • Drug Enforcement
  • Communications
  • Crime Lab Community Services
  • CORE and Intelligence led policing


Each class will allow time for discussion time for students to ask questions.  On the last day of the class sessions there will be closing remarks, class evaluation and a graduation.
