(INDEPENDENCE, Mo.) Monday, March 3, 2014 – Rescheduled Date - Missouri will conduct the 40th annual Statewide Tornado Drill at 1:30 p.m. on the rescheduled date of Thursday, March 6. Independence will also conduct its routine local testing of the outdoor warning sirens on at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
Outdoor warning sirens and weather alert radios will sound, indicating Missourians should seek shelter during the Statewide Tornado Drill on March 6. The safest shelter location is the basement or an interior room in the lowest level of a building. The drill is complete once everyone is accounted for in the designated shelters.
The City of Independence Emergency Preparedness Office, the National Weather Service, and the State Emergency Management Agency urge Missourians to use Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 3-7, as an opportunity to plan and prepare for how they will react and shelter in response to severe weather.
