Mayor's Christmas Concert December 8

As many as 800 little voices will join in song when the 28th Annual Mayor’s Christmas Concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 8 at the Community of Christ Auditorium, 1001 W. Walnut. There is no charge to attend the concert; a free-will offering will be taken.

The Mayor’s Christmas Concert is presented by Centerpoint Medical Center and benefits the Community Services League (CSL). Mayor Don Reimal is the host of the program, aimed at raising the awareness of those in need living in Independence. Since its inception in 1985, the concert has raised more than $275,000 for assistance programs and services administered through the CSL.

The concert will feature performances by fourth-grade students from the Independence School District, Nativity of Mary School, Center Place Restoration School, Messiah Lutheran School and Music Arts Institute. Catherin Lynch, a retired Independence School District music instructor, is the musical coordinator. The fourth grade choirs will be directed by Sarah Wehrman, also of the Independence School District.

In addition, the Spirit of Independence Band and the William Chrisman and Ft. Osage High School choirs will perform. Dick Wilson from 94.9 KCMO radio is the master of ceremonies for the hour-long program, which includes an audience sing-along.

Ushers for the event are members of the Van Horn High School Junior ROTC and the William Chrisman ACE Club.

The presenting sponsor is Centerpoint Medical Center, part of the HCA Midwest Health System.
