(INDEPENDENCE, Mo.) Monday, June 3, 2013 – Get ready...get set...walk! Start your walking program for this year by joining the Building a Healthier Independence "The Mile Starts Here."
The mile-led walks will start at 9 a.m. each Wednesday through October 30 and will rotate among five parks and trails throughout Independence. Water will be available each date.
BHI Project Coordinator Christina Heinen said the free program was launched last year as a way to promote physical activity while exploring the City’s parks and trails. "Walking is an easy, inexpensive way to lose weight, reduce stress and lower your risk of stroke and heart disease," Heinen said. "It is also a great way for people to meet others in the area who are interested in exercise."
