Free Chest-Compression CPR Training Offered During EMS Week
May 14, 2013

On Wednesday, May 22, The City of Independence Fire and Health Departments, Centerpoint Medical Center and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider American Medical Response, Inc. (AMR) will be attempting to set a world record by providing free training for chest compression-only CPR. The event is part of the City’s observance of National Emergency Medical Services Week, May 19-25, 2013.

EMS operations across the country are uniting to train as many people as possible to save lives through chest compression-only CPR (hands-only, no breathing assistance needed). Compression-only CPR is easy, less invasive and allows bystanders to keep life-saving blood flowing through a victim’s body just by pressing on the chest in a hard, fast rhythm. This can keep a cardiac arrest victim alive during the precious minutes until first responders can arrive. The training takes only 30 minutes and provides critical knowledge which can save lives.
