The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for our area through Wednesday, July 28. The Roger T. Sermon Community Center, 201 N. Dodgion St., will be available as a cooling center. The cooling center will have water available to patrons, as well as locations to rest and recharge their cell phones.
The cooling center will be open the following hours each day:
Saturday, July 24 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, July 25 – 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday-Wednesday, July 26-28 – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Citizens should take precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their pets during this dangerous heat. If possible, you should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and schedule work outdoors during the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler. It is important to remain well hydrated, drinking non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day. Finally, please never leave children or pets in the car, even for a few minutes.
