City takes steps to encourage further local focus on contracts, purchases

The Independence City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, Jan. 19, to update the City’s procurement policy. This update will provide preference to licensed businesses operating with a physical address in the City of Independence when all other pieces of a bid are equal.

“This change enhances the City’s current policy on local preference with a spotlight on businesses in good standing in the City of Independence,” 2nd District Councilmember Brice Stewart said. “Supporting our local businesses is important but even more so in the current environment. It is also important to note that this does not mean every contract will be awarded to local businesses but when they are competitive with their peers – they will get a few extra points in the evaluation process.”

Local vendors interested in consideration for future City contracts or bid opportunities that have not already registered as a verified vendor, should sign up here,mo/buyer/public/home.
