City of Independence honors passing of former Mayor Don B. Reimal

The City of Independence today received the sad news that the City’s 49th Mayor Don B. Reimal passed away.

“Mayor Reimal possessed a deep passion for the community and worked tirelessly through his two decades of public service on behalf of the citizens of Independence,” Mayor Eileen Weir said. “He had a particular love for our city’s history and dedicated himself to preserving our historic treasures and stories. Mayor Reimal has left an indelible mark on Independence through his steady leadership, significant projects he saw to completion, and especially through his kindness and empathy to everyone he encountered.”

Mayor Reimal served as 1st District Councilmember for 12 years from 1994 through 2006 when he was elected as Mayor. He served as Mayor of Independence for eight years until retiring in 2014.
