On April 1, Mayor Eileen Weir proclaimed April 9 through the 15, 2019 “SevenDays Week” as part of the annual SevenDays Make a Ripple, Change the World campaign. This effort was started following the deaths of Dr. William Corporon, Reat Underwood, and Terri LaManno in the Overland Park Jewish Community Center shootings in 2014. The SevenDays campaign encourages unique activities for each of the seven days. A detailed overview of the campaign and suggested ideas can be found at givesevendays.org.
“This unique effort, with the goal of breaking down barriers and bringing us all together, is an important example of how a simple idea can make a bigger impact,” Mayor Weir said. “We are encouraging our staff to recognize one another through Co-Worker Appreciation Day and will be collecting donations for local pets in need throughout the week as well.”
Citizens can get involved by bringing unopened pet food and toys to the second floor of City Hall, 111 E. Maple Ave. during business hours April 9 through April 15 (City Hall is closed on Saturdays and Sundays). You can read the full proclamation from the City of Independence here.
