Water reservoir on 35th Street to receive needed maintenance

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Independence residents may notice work on the 35th Street Water Reservoir, near the Mid-Continent Public Library, beginning next week, Sept. 11. Contractor equipment will be moved on-site on Sept. 18 and the project is slated to go through April 2018 depending on weather conditions. City water customers will not be impacted.

The contractor will be replacing the steel reservoir’s protective coating system, inside and out. Citizens will see the complete removal of the current coating, down to the steel, before the new system is installed. There will also be minor structural modifications and repairs made during the project.

The 35th Street Reservoir provides 2 million gallons of treated water storage, and it is used to augment the output of the Courtney Bend Water Plant during periods of high water demand, or in emergency situations. Once completed, the renovation project is expected to extend the usable life span of the reservoir 25 to 30 years.
