Gov. Greitens signs Senate Bill 111 requiring LLCs to list natural person, helping City of Independence enforce code violations

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Governor Eric Greitens has signed Senate Bill 111, which will require those filing an LLC with the State of Missouri and located within the City of Independence to include a natural person not just a registered agent. This distinction will allow the City to better enforce code violations on neglected properties.

“I am thankful Senator Rizzo was willing to work with the City of Independence to ensure we have yet another tool to move us forward,” Mayor Eileen Weir said. “Earlier this year we approved Independence for All, a new strategic plan with big goals for the City and code enforcement plays a key role. We have several major corridors in our City and many businesses along them. When an LLC is allowed to use a registered agent, it limits the actions we can take to resolve possible problems.”

Senate Bill 111, sponsored by Sen. Dan Hegeman (R – Cosby), was truly agreed upon and finally passed on May 11. It also allows for similar LLC actions within Kansas City. The full text of the bill is available here.
