The historic Truman Memorial Building is a great place for all your business and special event needs. We can provide you with meeting space for less than 10 and banquet space for up to 325 people. The facility houses an Auditorium/ Gymnasium with a capacity to hold over 1,000 participants. For conferences we can provide a classroom setting or a boardroom for large committee meetings. The facility is available to rent for private functions including baby showers, retirement parties, wedding receptions, and class reunions. We encourage you to visit us for a tour of the facility and to discuss how we may meet your event planning needs.The facility entrance is located on Pleasant Street, at street level, directly opposite the Palmer Center.

Facility Organizations

Civil Air Patrol (CAP)
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official United States Air Force Auxiliary and serves under that command. It is a volunteer, non-profit organization with three mandated missions:

  • Emergency Service - inland search and rescue,
  • Aerospace Education - internal and public and
  • Cadet Programs - leadership, space and aviation training for youth ages 12 to 18.

The local unit known as the Harry S. Truman Composite Squadron meets in the Truman Memorial Building. For more information call (816) 674-5996.

Independence Table Tennis Club
The Independence Table Tennis Club meets at the Truman Memorial Building. The club is open to all residents for singles or doubles play. The level of play includes novices and serious competitive players.

Cost: The yearly membership is $5 for all participants.

Monday night Table Tennis is now being offered from 6 - 8:30 p.m. There is a $2 drop in fee at the time of registration. Bring your paddle and a friend.
