George Owens Nature Park has given families the opportunity to reconnect with their natural environment since 1977. The park is open year round and provides 86 acres of beautiful forest, lakes, hiking trails and wildlife. Explore the rustic nature center and find new seasonal exhibits. Get up close to a snake, touch antlers, or count the rings on a tree. Experience the beauty of a 150 gallon freshwater aquarium with Missouri fish or peer into a 75 gallon turtle enclosure. The possibilities for adventure are endless.

Nature Story Time
You’ll be a Nature Pal when you come to Nature Story
Time. We read, explore outside and make crafts. This
winter, we’ll listen to good stories around the fire and
play in the snow. Offered with support of the Kansas

7th Annual Robert E. Tindall Scholarship Art Show & Sale
Exhibit Dates & Times: Tuesday - Saturday, March 4 - 24. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Reception Date & Time: Saturday, March 14, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m.
This free event will feature an original painting by Robert E. Tindall, in whose name the Independence Art Association has given scholarships for over 25 years. Commemorative giclee prints of a Tindall painting will be offered for sale at the reception, with proceeds going into the Independence Art Association scholarship fund. Independence Art Association member artwork will also be for sale during the reception.

Individuals and family volunteers will learn about our natural world by assisting park staff. We have volunteer opportunities that will fit your interest - gardening, maintaining bird feeders, assisting with nature programs, etc.
