Lock Down: Outlaws, Lawmen & Frontier Justice in Jackson County, Missouri
Lock Down by David W. Jackson and Paul Kirkman. Paperback 168 pages. The State of Missouri was admitted to the Union in 1821. Six years later, Independence, Missouri, was designated as the County Seat when Jackson County was formed on December 15, 1826. Less than ten miles to the west was "Indian Territory," or "The Great American Desert," and it would remain the western edge of the United States political boundary for another quarter century.
Discover real-life stories about early-day Independence, Jackson County, Missouri, and how the lawlessness of the frontier was dealt with...even if it seems cride and rustic when looking at it today.
