The Englewood Sub-Station is supported by the Englewood Business Association. Each year the business association hosts fundraisers to help keep the "Englewood Cops" in town.
The largest fundraiser is the annual BBQ, held at Curt's Famous Meats at Truman and Cedar. Two years ago, we saw a very large group of citizens show up, all of whom enjoyed some great BBQ, met several members of the Independence Police Department, and viewed several different police vehicles on hand for display.
The Englewood Police Sub-Station, known as the Englewood “COPS Shop”, is a community supported public safety facility serving the neighborhoods and business districts of northwest Independence and crime prevention efforts, including the Neighborhood Watch program, throughout the city. The “COPS Shop”, located on Winner Road in the Englewood Arts District, provides a public safety presence for businesses and residents and is a vital component in maintaining open communication with the Independence Police Department.
The “COPS Shop” is supported by contributions from the community to cover rent and expenses for the facility. The goal of the 2011 “COPS Shop” barbeque is to net $6,000 to cover one-year’s rent for the police sub station.
