"The Pioneer Woman," a life-size, bronze statue of a pioneer woman carrying a child
in one arm and a bucket in the other, was sculpted by Juan Lombardo-Revera of Mexico
City, Mexico. The majority of the sculpture is blue with the exception of the faces,
hands, hair and feet, which are bronze-color. Lombardo said he chose to add color
to the statue to make it stand out. The statue is mounted on a large rock outside
in a courtyard of the National Frontier Trails Museum. "The Pioneer Woman," dedicated
in March, 1990, is a tribute to all the pioneer mothers of the past and their daughters
of today.
