The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program has been a huge success and continues to grow. If you are interested in the VIPS program, one thing to keep in mind is that the VIPS are not sworn law enforcement officers. Although to be a member of the VIPS, you have to submit to the same background check as a sworn law enforcement officer, you can not affect an arrest.
Becoming a Volunteer in Police Service is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. We believe that utilizing a volunteer work force will strengthen community relations and help build strong partnerships. Volunteers are asked to provide a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer time per month to the Police Department. Volunteers are trained to supplement the police department in areas that aid the community.
