Two Important Events of Interest

Anthony Standifer, the man who was convicted for the murder of retired Independence Police Department (IPD) employee, Beverly Crowl, has filed a motion for Post Conviction Relief and is attempting to have his sentence set aside. He has a hearing set for Friday, January 24, 2014, at 1:30 pm in Division 17 at the Jackson County Annex before Judge Grate. Beverly’s family (including a daughter who still works at IPD) will be there. The family would be very pleased to have anyone who could, attend the hearing in support of the family as well as belief the sentence should be upheld.

Additionally, another case is being heard in Division 17 the same day regarding defendant David Murdick. Murdick is expected to plead guilty of killing MODOT employee Clifton Scott on September 21, 2012, by driving drunk on I-70 and striking Mr. Scott while he was working a previous accident. This case is set for 3:30 p.m.

If you and some of your friends could attend either or both of these events, it will surely make a statement and send a message that justice is not just something for which to hope. We as citizens believe it is mandatory for a safe and stable society.
