The 3rd Annual Independence Park Trot 5K Run/Walk is coming up! Lace up your running shoes and get excited for this free, family-friendly event open to participants of all ages and fitness levels. It will take place rain or shine at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Waterfall Park near Bass Pro Shop.
As part of the Building a Healthier Independence initiative, the City’s Health Department has teamed up with Independence Parks and Recreation and KC Running Company to continue this awesome tradition of the Independence Park Trot 5K to encourage exercise among residents and promote increased use and access of the City's parks and trails.
This year’s race will be on the same certified course as the 2013 Park Trot, and chip-timing will again be offered to all participants. By providing this race FREE of charge, we hope entire families will enjoy the event together and want to spend more time visiting the many parks and trails Independence has to offer.
At this year’s Park Trot, not only can you explore Waterfall Park, but we encourage everyone to hang around after the race and watch the Park Trot Kids Dash, mingle with fellow runners, and wait for the race winners to be announced. The Kids’ Dash is open to children ages 10 and younger.
Despite unseasonably cold temperatures, the 2nd Annual Park Trot 5K was a huge success with more than 1,100 participants from nine different states, even as far away as Maryland and Texas. We’re hoping the 3rd Annual Independence Park Trot will be even bigger and better!
Registration for this year’s race is open now at www.IndependenceParkTrot.com. T-shirts are also available through the Park Trot website, in both adult and child sizes, starting at just $10.
Packet pick-up is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Bass Pro Shops, 18001 Bass Pro Drive, and from 7 to 7:45 a.m. the day of the race near the start of the course.
So come on out and explore the healthier side of Independence. Stroll through one of our picturesque parks and enjoy the city we all call home. Get Movin’, Get Healthy!
