Do you find parenting to be the most rewarding, yet challenging job you have ever had? If you answered yes, then Parents University was created with you in mind!
Parents University is an annual conference designed especially for parents and caregivers. It is an opportunity to learn new ideas, exchange ideas with local experts, visit with other parents, and view exhibits featuring businesses and agencies that serve parents, caregivers, and children. Through collaboration, Parents University aims to foster the close communication that strengthens the community support of and response to families, raise awareness about issues related to children, and to provide education to the community as a whole.
This year, Parents University will be on April 6, 2013, at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast provided by Chris Cakes. This will be followed by three 50-minute sessions for parents and caregivers. During each session slot, attendees will be given the choice of four-five topics, which will include Keeping Kids Calm: Mindfulness and Relaxation Skills, Family Dinner- What is it Worth?, Financial Wellness Workshop, The Impact of Fathering, Parenting the Difficult Child, Love and Logic for Childcare Employees, Eating Healthy on a Budget, BYOB: Bring Your Own Baby, and many more!
These sessions will provide parents and caregivers with skills that were never taught in school. Attendees will leave knowing how to teach a child to be responsible for their decisions, the importance of eating meals together, the importance of safe sleep arrangements for babies, everyday opportunities for infant brain development, and how to successfully communicate with children to positively manage behavior.
Parents University is fun for kids, too! A variety of activities have been planned for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Activities are supervised by our child-care specialists and volunteers. Parents University will be providing FREE childcare during the sessions for children 6 weeks- 12 years.
In addition to this, all guests will be eligible to win a variety of door prizes that will be drawn throughout the morning.
