Police Officer
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age to be certified as a police officer
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent (college degree or college course work in criminal justice preferred)
- Possess/maintain a valid Missouri driver's license by date of hire and have a good driving record
- Have no serious criminal record
- Have an excellent work history and attendance record
- Must not have been discharged from the military under dishonorable conditions
- Residency in the City of Independence is not required
Eligible Candidates Must:
- Pass a comprehensive written examination (City conducts testing approximately twice year)
- Pass a pre-employment physical agility test (Given at time of written test)
- Pass an oral interview
- Pass a polygraph examination
- Pass a psychological evaluation
- Undergo an extensive background investigation and have the ability to render credible testimony in a court of law
- Pass a medical physical and drug screen
- Successfully complete a 13 week F.T.O. program & serve a 12 month probationary period after appointment
- Non-certified candidates are required to pass a state certified police academy for a Class “A” P.O.S.T. certification for 600 hours
