Advisory Board to the City Manager, Department of Health and City Council on matters pertaining to public health, and shall perform such other duties as prescribed by law ordinances and shall, where advisable, cooperate with federal, state and municipal agencies and non-government organizations with the purpose of effectuating general aims. The Board may also make such investigations and studies in the field of Public Health, which in its judgment, will be helpful in carrying out its general purposes.
Ten member board appointed to three (3) year terms by the City Council or until their successors have been appointed and qualified. In November 2009, the structure of the Board was revised to include: four (4) Licensed Medical Practitioners; one (1) Dentist; one (1) Veterinarian; and four (4) Lay Members. The board selects its own chairperson and other necessary officers. The Director of Health serves as a non-voting, recording secretary for all Board meetings.
